The National Energy Foundation launched the Energy Envoys volunteering opportunity to 300,000 young people as part of the world­-famous Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It is a major new environmental volunteering scheme for young people to help schools and communities use energy more wisely, save money and reduce carbon emissions.

The scheme is supported and endorsed by the UK’s leading professional engineering institutions and the National Union of Students.

VolDECs (Voluntary Display Energy Certificates) are a voluntary operational building energy performance rating scheme. Initially for commercial office buildings they are now being developed for other non-domestic sectors.
This is a not-for-profit scheme.
The ratings are based on relatively simple data; they aim to be inexpensive and quick to produce, highlighting energy performance in a simple and consistent way. Tenant energy use is separated from that of the landlord and common parts, with data displayed individually or on the same certificate. This provides building owners and operators with energy ratings for areas that they control and are able to improve.

The National Energy Efficiency and Retrofit Awards encourage excellence in the delivery of energy services in upgrading homes. The judging panel comprises industry experts and is independent.

The event organisers have announced that next year’s awards will be called the Energy Efficiency & Healthy Homes Awards – reflecting an increasing emphasis on health.
